Ice Castles (1978, 2010)

I watched both movie today. Originally intending to watch Ong Bak 2 (will post comments after I watch it), I could not since the DVD did not play in my player and ended up watching the 2010 version of Ice Castles.

Long story short, the story was about a girl (aged about 16 years) who is targeting the Olympics in the sport of Figure Skating, becomes blind due to an accident & how she returns to the rink with the help & support of her family & boy friend. Really a one liner :).

The way the movie is portrayed was what made me watch the original version too (same story, different time period).

It shows how much media attention & being in lime light can change a person’s perspective of the world. A girl from a remote village in Iowa, when exposed to sudden media attention clearly deviates from her values which she regrets later. Clearly shows why people with the most humble beginnings can turn so rude to their near and dear after being exposed to the lime light. I haven’t personally been in a situation, but I can imagine what can go a person’s mind where a stadium full of people just watch & cheer your every motion. This can be more true if you have die hard fans that will do anything just have a glimpse of yours.

It is at this peak of fame, when a person is still humble, he becomes a hero; even for next generation of people that haven’t even seen you or heard you or seen your performance.

These are the people with whom even if you have huge difference of opinion, you still respect them, for who they are. And respect them much more if your opinions align.

For me personally, of many examples I can give, former would be Gandhi & latter would be Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
